If you're willing to jump through hoops, Windows 10 Mobile Build 10136 is out now

It has taken a while, but there’s now a new Windows 10 Mobile preview build for Windows Insiders on the Fast ring. The main catch with this Build 10136 is that due to a “migration bug”, you can’t do an upgrade if you are running Build 10080. In fact, you won't even see that there's a new build if you're on 10080. To get to 10136, you will need to go back to Windows Phone 8.1 using the Windows Phone Recovery Tool first, select the Insider Fast option again in the Windows Insider app, and upgrade from there. Sounds like a hassle? You bet - but you could always wait for the next build that doesn’t have this issue.

In addition, Microsoft warns that at the end of the upgrade the Lock screen will appear frozen without the date and time for up to 10 minutes. Just sit it out and they will eventually appear. Also, don’t try to restart or lock/unlock the phone because you don’t see the migration status screen after the upgrade. Again, just chill and let the phone do its thing.

If you’re brave enough to proceed, you will find that Build 10136 comes with many user experience tweaks, most of them being font, icon, and layout changes. Cortana is also improved; besides UI changes, flight and package tracking is now enabled, so too are alerts for going to work, going home, and the airport. You can also ask questions regarding weather, currency information, stock quotes, and more and get the answers directly inline. Microsoft says this version of Cortana is “very close” to the final design.

The Photos app is also seeing some improvements, like the ability to tap on a month to get a list of months and double-tap to zoom on a photo. If you’ve a Lumia 640, 640XL, 930, Icon, or 1520, the Lumia Camera Beta app, which is the same app as the new Windows 10 Camera app, will sport additional features that light up based on the Lumia hardware.

Last but certainly not the least, you can now press and hold the Start button to have the screen slide down so you can reach items at the top. This allows for better one-handed use if you’ve a 5-inch or greater device.

Naturally, while several bugs from Build 10080 are squashed, there are still some known issues in Build 10136. The full list can be found in this Microsoft blog post.
