HyperX’s Cloud Flight is a super comfortable wireless gaming headset

The design is pretty low-key, even with the LEDs on.

HyperX has made its first ever foray into the world of wireless gaming headsets, and it’s a pretty admirable effort. The Cloud Flight appears to have been designed with a focus on usability and comfort, and the overall look is also pretty tasteful as far as gaming headsets go.

For starters, the body of the headset is predominantly black, save for the red HyperX logo on the earcups and the red wire peeking out from the top of each earcup. Still, the HyperX logo pulses red when the headset is powered on, so you can’t exactly call the Cloud Flight plain either.

The Cloud Flight connects to your PC or PS4 via USB (third-party wireless headsets are not supported on the Xbox One), and it transmits over the 2.4GHz frequency rather than Bluetooth.

The headset and dongle come paired right out of the box.

However, you’ll also have the option to use the headset in wired mode, and it comes with a 1.3m audio cable with a 3.5mm headphone jack. There’s a separate 1m USB charging cable as well, and HyperX says the Cloud Flight is good for up to 30 hours of use, assuming the LEDs are off.

Opting for the breathing effects drops the figure down to 18 hours, while the always-on, static mode reduces it further to 13 hours.

You can control the volume and LED effects directly on the headset, and there’s a convenient volume dial on the right earcup. The power button sits on the left, and this doubles up as a toggle for the different lighting modes.

And if you want to mute the headset, you simply press down on the bottom half of the left earcup cover, which is rather convenient.

The headset appears built for easy transportation as well, and the earcups can be rotated 90-degrees to lie flat. The microphone is also detachable, so you can stow it away while on the move.

Sound is delivered by large 50mm dynamic drivers (just good 'ol stereo sound here) but the most impressive part of the headset is how comfortable it is. I got to try it out only briefly, but the plush memory foam earcups are snug without being too tight.

The headset is also not too heavy, which is important if you’re going to be using it for long hours.

The Cloud Flight is already available to buy on HyperX’s website for US$159.99.
