Huawei today announces its latest flagship smartphone, the Mate S which is also the world's first phone to come with a Force Touch display.

According to Huawei, the display of the Mate S is able to perceive the different levels of pressure and reacts accordingly like an approximate scale. For example, a long press on the screen allows you to zoom in on the particular area of a photo. Without elaborating further, Huawei states that it will be bringing new and unique Force Touch apps to life on the Mate S.

Its Fingerprint Sense 2.0 technology is another key feature of the Mate S. It is claimed to be faster, more sensitive and boasts more accurate self-learning functions to improve recognition speeds. Besides using it to unlock the phone, the fingerprint sensor can control notifications, scroll through photos, take selfies, answer calls and even dismiss alarms.

The Mate S also comes with Knuckle Sense 2.0, a technology which was introduced on the P8. Similar in concept to Oppo's Gesture Panels,  Huawei's Knuckle Sense 2.0 relies on a series of gestures to switch between apps by drawing shortcut letters on the display. For example, drawing a "W" while watching a video will take you to an instant messaging app. You also can crop and copy an image by outlining it with your knuckle.

Other notable specs include a full metal chassis, an arched back, a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilizer, dual color-temp LED flash, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, a Kirin 935 processor, 3GB RAM and 32/64GB internal storage.

Huawei states that the Mate S will be initially available in more than 30 countries including China, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Spain, South Africa and UAE. It is available for pre-order n Western Europe on Vmall.eu starting next Tuesday, 15th September.

The 32GB model in titanium grey and mystique champagne is priced at 649 euros while the 64GB model in prestige gold and coral pink is priced at 699 euros. The Force-Touch variant will be available in select markets.
