It's to no surprise that Huawei unveiled its 5.0-inch flagship Ascend D2 at CES this year - after all, it was confirmed in the month, with photos leaked all over the net, leading up to the annual consumer tech show. First unveiled in China in October last year, the latest hero product in Huawei's Ascend series of smartphones, the Ascend D2 comes with top of the line specs, including Android 4.1, a 5-inch FHD IPS+ 443 PPI Super Retina LCD display, Huawei's K3V2 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU and a 13-megapixel camera.

The Ascend D2 will be running on Android 4.1 with same Emotion UI found on its Ascend Mate sibling.

All three phones match each other's specs quite closely, with major differences being that the Ascend D2 uses its own proprietary quad-core processor, it doesn't come with a MicroSD slot and it has the biggest battery capacity at 3000mAh.

With its aluminum body and metal frame, the device looks suspiciously like a particular smartphone.

Sporting a somewhat angular and minimalist frame, the Huawei Ascend D2 looks pretty good to boot. While it isn't as thin as ZTE's 6.9mm frame, it holds its forte at a mere 9.9mm thinness.

Available in pure white and crystal blue, the Ascend D2 will also be available in a smaller 4.7-inch screen version. The smartphone will first be on sale in China this month, and in Japan in the future. There's no news of local availability or pricing at the moment.
