HTC's Profits Soar on Back of Android

HTC has shown that its bet on Google's Android OS is paying off in a big way, after reporting a 58% increase in sales. Record sales figures of its smartphones helped boost the company's revenue, while profits went up by 33%.

WSJ - Taiwanese handset maker HTC Corp. said Tuesday its second-quarter profit rose 33% and sales jumped 58% on strong demand for its growing lineup of smartphones. HTC, one of the largest makers of cellphones using Microsoft Corp's operating system as well as devices running Google Inc.'s Android software, benefitted from new models released in the U.S. and Europe, such as the Droid Incredible for Verizon Wirelss and Evo 4G for Sprint Nextel Corp.
