The rumors were right! HTC has indeed released a larger and more featured packed version of the M9, the One M9+ in China.

The One M9+ sports a 5.2-inch Quad-HD (QHD) display, a 64-bit octa-core 2.2GHz MediaTek MT6795T processor, 3GB RAM, a fingerprint sensor, a 20-megapixel Duo Camera, an UltraPixel front-facing camera, Sense 7, a 2,840mAh battery and front-facing BoomSound speakers.

It is the second HTC smartphone after the One Max to come with a fingerprint sensor. While the fingerprint sensor on the One Max works uni-directional and requires you to execute a swipe gesture, the sensor on the One M9+ is multi-directional which works in any direction.

Besides unlocking the phone, the fingerprint sensor on the One M9+ also supports the AliPay payment system in China. Do note that the fingerprint sensor is not a home button although it is shaped like one; navigation is still done via the on-screen buttons.

According to Engadget, HTC currently has no plans to bring the One M9+ beyond China to North America or Europe. It adds that the One M9+ is a result of the collaboration with mobile operators in China "to create a phone with the right balance of screen size, processor performance, software, and radio network compatibility to meet consumers' needs".

All hope is not lost yet; HTC states that "ranging in other markets will be confirmed locally at a later date", so we just have to wait and see.
