HTC's BlinkFeed app will start displaying ads for users in a limited number of countries from this week.

According to HTC, a limited number of promotions will be displayed to BlinkFeed users in selected markets such as the U.S, the U.K, Germany, Taiwan and China. The native, relevant promotions of sponsored apps will come from AdNetworks partners such as Yahoo, Twitter and Appia.

The company also states that there is an opt-out option for users though it positions its ad placement as a way to "discover new and useful apps and/or products and services". It is noteworthy to mention that this ad placement is a pilot; HTC will continue to monitor its effectiveness and decide whether to roll out to more markets.

BlinkFeed's original function is to help consumers quickly glance through their most preferred content without having to launch multiple apps to achieve the same purpose. It was introduced on the One flagship smartphone in 2013 and gradually made its way to other HTC smartphones.
