Days before the Mobile World Congress 2012 kicks off, HTC Singapore's Facebook page came up with an interesting teaser image - a generic looking HTC smartphone, with the number four inside, and stating that we'll hear something authentic this Sunday. This matches up to what we know will happen at MWC 2012, where HTC will be holding its own press conference on Sunday.

So what could this mean? For one, it's highly likely that we'll be seeing the first wave of HTC smartphones pre-loaded with Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at MWC 2012.  Another likely theory would be an update to HTC Sense to version 4.0, given that it has already reached its third iteration. And it won't be surprising to see HTC coming up with a smartphone equipped with a display within the 4-inch range, given its earlier lineup which includes a 4.7-inch HTC Sensation XL.

Here's another possibility: LG has already unveiled their quad-core smartphone, the LG Optimus 4X HD. If anything, the number four is a direct reference to the four processor cores for the quad-core chips. Though technically speaking, if we're looking at NVIDIA's Tegra 3 processor, it's actually four main cores and one companion core that's reserved for less resource intensive processes.

And what's the last speculation? We could be seeing all these theories being proven at MWC 2012 - a HTC smartphone with a 4-inch or larger display, powered by a quad-core processor, running Android 4.0 with the Taiwanese company's HTC Sense 4.0 on top of it.

In any case, we'll be following up with more details live from Barcelona at HTC's press conference this Sunday. For a quick round-up of the latest news for MWC 2012, click here.
