HTC One X, HTC One X+ Not Getting Android 4.3 Update

HTC One X, HTC One X+ Not Getting Android 4.3 Update

HTC has recently issued a statement on its UK Twitter account, confirming that the HTC One X, as well as the HTC One X+, will not be receiving further Android operating system updates. This means that both phones will remain on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, instead of getting updated with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, or Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Both phones were HTC's flagship products from 2012, with the One X+ being a refreshed variant of the One X and released in late 2012 (about 14 months ago). When contacted by The Verge regarding the validity of the statement, HTC also issued a follow-up statement:

We can confirm that the HTC One X and One X+ will not receive further Android OS updates beyond Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed both devices to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences.

While this may seem like bad news for One X and One X+ owners, there seems to be a very logical reason for this unfortunate decision by HTC. According to The Verge, the lack of support for these flagship devices seem to be caused by poor sales of the devices, as well as the difference in hardware configuration (which makes it more difficult for engineers to optimize new operating systems to fit the devices).

Because of these two factors, it's still too early to tell if more recently released flagship devices from HTC will suffer the same fate. Meanwhile, Samsung Singapore has confirmed on their Facebook page that the Samsung Galaxy S3, also released in 2012, will be updated to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in the near future (take note that it's not Android 4.4 Kit Kat as well).
