HP has been on quite a roll lately. The company appears to have been reinvigorated on the design front, trotting out sleek machines like the HP Spectre and the Chromebook 13. Now, it has announced the HP Pavilion All-in-One, a new AIO that is just the latest in a line of products with eye-catching and attractive designs.

The name – it’s more than just a little bland – does leave a lot to be desired, but the device fortunately makes up for it in the looks department. The 23.8-inch non-touch IPS display has a thin bezel of just 6.4mm, and the overall impression is of an edge-to-edge display in the style of Dell’s InfinityEdge products like its XPS 13 and UltraSharp monitors. HP is calling this, perhaps quite aptly, a Micro-Edge display, and it gets rid of the fat black borders that surrounded the display on the previous Pavilion AIO.

HP has also found quite a novel way to accommodate a webcam despite the thin bezels. The webcam still sits at the top, but it is spring-loaded and simply pops out of the top of the machine when you push down. This also means that it can slide back down and out of sight when you don’t need it, which should reassure those of you worried about someone hacking your webcam.

In addition, the webcam can be configured to work with Windows Hello, so you can log into the machine by just having it recognize your face.

This is without a doubt one handsome machine (especially when compared to its predecessor). However, it is lacking certain configuration options that are found on similar AIOs from other brands. For instance, while it can be equipped with up to a sixth-generation Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GT 930A graphics card, there is no option for a touchscreen display, an optical drive, or even a QHD display. The base model comes with a 1,920 x 1,080-pixel panel, and there’s no way to upgrade that.

Connectivity options include a USB Type-C port, a regular USB 3.0 Type-A port, an Ethernet jack, and an HDMI output.

On top of that, HP also announced a pair of regular AIOs without the Micro-Edge bezels. These come with either 23.8-inch or 27-inch screens, and will have touchscreen displays.

The new Pavilion AIO with the Micro-Edge display is expected to be available in the US this summer with a starting price of US$750. The AIOs with the regular bezels start at US$700 for the 23.8-inch model and US$1,000 for the 27-inch version. Unfortunately, we don’t yet have any news about whether they will be coming to our shores.
