HP recalls notebook batteries for fire hazard, check yours now

Note: This article was first published on 27th Jan 2017.

HP has expanded its ongoing worldwide voluntary safety recall and replacement program for certain notebook batteries, which was first announced in June 2016.

The program now includes additional batteries so you should recheck your notebook even if you’ve checked earlier. These batteries could potentially overheat and pose a fire hazard, so checking if you’re part of the recall should be your first priority if you own a HP notebook.

The affected batteries were shipped with specific HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq Presario, and HP Pavilion notebooks that were sold worldwide from March 2013 to October 2016, including those sold as accessories, spares or provided as replacements.

The hazard is serious enough that HP is recommending customers stop using affected batteries immediately. The computer will provide a replacement battery for each affected battery at no cost.

Head over to HP’s Notebook Computer Battery Safety Recall and Replacement Program site now to check if your HP notebook battery is affected.
