This is how you check your passenger rating given by Uber drivers

The current Uber app logo.

Users familiar with Uber would know about the driver rating system enforced by the ride-booking app. However, not many passengers are aware of the Uber passenger rating – this score is given out by Uber drivers after they complete a ride, and it gives an abstract benchmark to the overall quality of the passenger. The rating follows the passenger for their entire Uber usage lifespan.

Check your passenger rating

Here’s how you can see your Uber passenger rating via the app:

First, open the Uber app and bring up the profile management menu by swiping right from the left edge, or by tapping the menu icon in the top-left corner. Tap on the Help option to begin.

Tap on the Account panel.

Search for “I’d like to know my rating”, and access that option.

Press the submit button, and you’ll get your score. The rating is based on a maximum of five stars, with a lowest possible rating of one star.

While the rating has no immediate consequence from Uber, drivers can actually pick and choose passengers based on a passenger’s score. An unofficial Uber driver forum thread from the US showed that reasonable drivers tend to think twice before picking any passenger below four stars. Most passengers tend to fall within 4.5 stars or higher. By comparison, expectations for Uber drivers are much higher. According to Uber’s FAQ across various cities, they are required to maintain a minimum of 4.4 to 4.5 stars to access the Uber app.

How do I improve the score?

That said, here are some tips from Uber drivers on how to improve your Uber passenger rating. You’re not supposed to obsess over it – this list is meant to help frequent Uber riders with very poor scores to make future rides better for their drivers and themselves.

  • Practice basic courtesy and etiquette.
  • Enter your pick-up and drop-off addresses manually to reduce mistakes for both drivers and passengers. The “Go To Pin” function is not always accurate.
  • Avoid micromanaging the driver when in transit.
  • Do not ask drivers to make illegal turns or stops.
  • Do not make a driver wait unreasonably long for you to start the journey (a good measure would be the time you would willingly wait for a late driver).
  • Avoid making a mess in the vehicle.
  • Do not overload the Uber vehicle – ping for one that is equipped for your needs, or ping for multiple vehicles for larger groups of passengers.
