Hands On with Ducky's Limited Edition Year of the Dragon Keyboard at Computex 2012

A look at Ducky's past limited edition keyboards.

Every year since 2009, Ducky releases a special edition keyboard based on the Chinese Zodiac. In 2009, it was the year of the Bull; in 2010, the year of the Tiger; and in 2011, the year of the Rabbit. For 2012, it is the year of the Dragon. Therefore, at Computex 2012, Ducky is announcing the limited edition DK-9087 Year of The Dragon Edition.

From our brief session with the DK-9087 Year of the Dragon Edition keyboard, we found it be sturdily built and well-finished. The keys are laser engraved to prevent wear and have a high-end paint coating. The keys are using using Cherry MX switches, so the overall feel is very tactile and satisfying.

The keyboard can be identified by the special dragon motif on what should be the FN key.

One of the five LED modes configures the keyboard such that the key only lights up if its depressed. Imagine typing in the dark with it!

We are also delighted by its numerous LED modes. For those who like LED lightings, this keyboard will not disappoint. It has five LED modes in total and including one that only lights the keys that are being depressed - we found that to be quite fun and amusing. The keyboard we tried was blue, but it is also available in other colors.

Overall, it looks like a very well-built keyboard for enthusiasts who prefer mechanical keyboards.
