Guess how much the iPhone X costs to make

TechInsights, a firm that takes apart devices and analyzes the parts inside, has reported that the 64GB version of the iPhone X costs about US$357.20 to make.

It also said that this gives the iPhone X a gross margin of 64%, which is higher than the iPhone 8's gross margin of 59%.

An earlier estimate from research firm IHS said that the iPhone 8 Plus costs about US$288 to make, whereas the smaller iPhone 8 costs US$247.51 to make.

According to TechInsights, there are a few notable components that contribute to the iPhone X's higher cost. The edge-to-edge display, for example, in the iPhone X is US$65.50, whereas the 4.7-inch display on the iPhone 8 is just US$36.

One thing to note is that these estimates do not take into account other manufacturing expenses like research and development, software development, distribution, marketing, or advertising.

Additionally, Apple CEO Tim Cook also once said that such costs breakdowns are generally inaccurate and that he has never seen one that is "anywhere close to being accurate".

Nevertheless, these estimates give us a good idea as to what the priciest components inside an iPhone could be.
