Is Graphene the New Miracle Material?
Is graphene the new miracle material? BBC News quotes mechanical engineering professor James Hone, of Columbia University, as saying:
"It would take an elephant, balanced on a pencil, to break through a sheet of graphene the thickness of Saran Wrap [cling film]."
A lot of hope is being placed for graphene's potential use in composite materials and electronics. Samsung has already demonstrated a 25" flexible graphene touchscreen, but Dr Andre Geim, the co-holder of the Nobel Prize in physics for his work with graphene, advises us to temper those hopes:
"It is a dream," says Dr Geim."The prospect is so far beyond the horizon that we cannot even assess it properly."
