Google has just announced that its handy Translate app can now translate more languages in real-time. Google is expanding the capabilities of the app and it can now instantly translate printed text in 27 languages, up from the previous 7.

The seven languages that were initially supported were: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Now, Google is added support for 20 more languages including, Croatian, Bulgarian, Dutch, Indonesia, Polish, Romanian, Swedish and more.

Obviously, the added languages would make the Translate app a even more helpful tool especially when traveling. However, we noticed that support for Japanese, a popular travel destination for Singaporean folks, is still missing. Another notable omission is Chinese.

Watch the Translate app in action below:

In any case, to try out the new languages, go to the Google Translate app and set “English” along with the language you’d like to translate. Click the camera button and you'll be prompted to download a small language pack that is around 2MB. The language pack is required for every new language that you want to translate, so it all works even if you have no data connection.

This update will be available for both Android and iOS.
