Google rewards users with free Demi Lovato album following Apple's U2 giveaway

At yesterday's iPhone 6 launch event, Apple gave away U2's latest Songs of Innocence album to all iTunes customers worldwide. It was a generous gesture and considering there are reportedly 500 million users worldwide, the cost of giving away a new album would've cost Apple a whopping US$6 billion (assuming the cost of each digital album is US$12).

So if you're Apple's competitor, what do you do? Give away a free album as well! And that's exactly what Google is doing today, with a free Demi Lovato album download on Google Play. Although the album was released about a year ago and all Demi Lovato fans would've probably bought a copy of her album already, we're glad that Google was quick to respond with a giveaway. But to be fair, this isn't the first time Google Play is giving away free music as they do offer free music tracks from time to time.

Anyway, if you've already paid for a physical CD, there's no reason why you shouldn't download the digital copy since it'll save you the trouble of ripping the disc. Also, the digital copy contains an exclusive cover of Ed Sheeran's "Give Me Love" that was released just a couple of months back.

There's one caveat though, this offer is only available to US customers. But there's an easy way to get around it. Access the page via a US VPN and place a US billing address when setting up your Google Wallet, regardless of your credit card's billing address.

So go download your free album now and share this with your friends. Because, sharing is caring.
