Google Releases Factory Image and Driver Binaries for New Nexus 7

If you don't already know, Google launched the new Nexus 7 a few weeks ago. Now Google has also released the factory image and the driver binaries for their new tablet. People who want to start work on modding the new Nexus 7 and tinkering with the device can download the material from the Google developer site.

A quick peek at the driver binaries shows that Qualcomm has helpfully provided the open source code for the Nexus 7's Graphics, Camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Sensors, Media, DRM, DSP and USB modules. The NFC feature's source code comes courtesy of Broadcom while audio and sensors can be attributed to ASUS.

Just a few days ago Jean-Baptiste Queru, who was at the time the technical lead at Android Open Source Project, had strongly implied that Google would be breaking its tradition of releasing the code for their products to the open source community this time around. Queru is no longer with Android Open Source Project and It is unclear whether there is any link between his departure and the release of the aforementioned files.
