Bid farewell to Android Market as you will be getting an update to a unified platform, Google Play.
According to The Verge, a Google spokesman termed Play as "an evolution of Android Market." Google Play will bring all the entertainment services under its wings, which include the Android Market, Google Music and the Google eBookStore. You also will see rebranding of the standard Android books, music and video apps to Google Play Books, Google Play Music, and Google Play Movies.
To celebrate the introduction of Google Play, the company is offering a different album, book, video rental (in countries where they are available) and Android apps at a special price each day for the next week in its "7 Days to Play" sale. For example, some of the most popular apps (or Play apps) are now selling for 49 cents each.
Google Play is not only a one-stop digital entertainment centre for Android users to access content, services and apps, it is also seen as a compelling alternative to Apple's iCloud and iTunes. Android 2.2 or later devices will automatically receive the update in the coming days.
