Apple iOS 6 users have something to look forward to later today as Google is said to be releasing the Maps app for iOS later today. According to AllThingsD, the information came from sources familiar with the matter.

Google Maps was dropped by Apple in favor of its own mapping technology when it unveiled iOS 6 in September. However, Apple's own mapping solution appeared to be half-baked as it was plagued with bugs, flaws and serious navigation issues.

This not only prompted Apple's CEO Tim Cook to issue an official apology on the company's website, it also got the manager of Apple Maps fired. If Apple approves the Maps app in its App Store, iOS 6 users can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
