The on-going smartphone lawsuits between Apple and HTC is set to intensify with Google lending support to the Taiwanese company.

According to Perth Now, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt lashed out at Apple during the company's Mobile Revolution conference in Tokyo where he criticized Apple for its jealousy and lack of innovation on the iPhone. This follows closely last Friday's initial ruling by the U.S International Trade Commissions that HTC had infringed two of Apple's patents in the Android devices.

Eric Schmidt - "We have not done anything wrong and these lawsuits are just inspired by our success."

Mr. Schmidt went on to explain why Google Android is "under attack", claiming that the tremendous growth of Google Android the past year has prompted its competitors to respond with lawsuits instead of innovation. While he was confident of a win in the fight against Apple, he declined to comment further on the company's strategy.

It is hard to determine the winner in this smartphone lawsuit, especially when it involves three major players in the smartphone arena.
