Google Glass Updated with New Controls

Google Glass is a great example of wearable, portable computing. But its unique design throws up some interesting problems with regards to usage. The developer team at Google has been hard at work to improve how the consumers will interact with the device and have just rolled out some interesting new features.

New voice commands have been added for Navigation. The idea behind the contextual commands such as "Show route overview", "Hide route overview" and "Stop directions" is to provide a better hands-free navigation system for users.

Voice commands for third party applications have also been added with the new update. Users can now experience greater integration with the social platform Path and the note-taking app Evernote. The simple voice command "Ok Glass, post an update" will update Path when it is active. Similarly "Ok Glass, take a note" will send a note to Evernote. To enable these voice commands for Path and Evernote, both apps must be turned on from the MyGlass Android app or website. The provision of voice command support for third party applications is definitely good news for developers who might be looking to make it big on the Glass platform.

Google has also made it so that the Glass' volume can now be adjusted from the Glass' Settings bundle or through card actions. Other small fixes such as inclusion of SMS messages from the native Messaging app on your timeline and a more natural voice command detection mechanism have also been implemented. A full breakdown of the new update can be found at the Google Glass Support website.
