Google Acquires Music Streaming Service Songza
Following Apple's purchase of Beats (and rapper Jay-Z's snarky comments), another tech giant has bought a music streaming service. This time, Google has announced their acquisition of Songza, and hopes to utilize their "contextual expert-curated playlists to give you the right music at the right time". Songza is known for its curated music playlists and boasts a 'Music Concierge' to help you find suitable music for your current mood.
There wouldn't be immediate changes to existing Songza users, but Google has plans to include Songza features to their current offering, Google Play Music, as well as "look for opportunities to bring their great work to the music experience on YouTube and other Google products".
Currently, Google Play Music is offered in several countries but not yet in Singapore, while rumors for a music subscription service on YouTube has been around since last year.
