Global Price Cut for Samsung Galaxy Gear to Prepare for Launch of Its Successor?

The Galaxy Gear was only announced in September 2013, but Samsung is now slashing its prices in many countries.

Updated on February 18: Samsung Mobile Singapore revised the retail price of the Galaxy Gear to $398.

Originally reported on February 5, 2014

Less than six months after its official announcement, Samsung is slashing the retail prices of its Galaxy Gear in several countries.

According to Daily Tech, the global price cut is to reduce stock in preparation for the launch of the next generation Galaxy Gear at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 later this month. There are reports that Samsung began slashing the prices as early as last month in India and the U.S.

Samsung India yesterday stated another discount for the Galaxy Gear, which saw its retail price slashed from RS18,290 to RS15,290. Its initial launch price was RS22,290. Daily Tech also expects a price cut for the U.S market in the coming weeks, where the price is expected to drop from US$299 to US$210.

Currently, the Galaxy Gear is priced at S$488 which we find it to be quite expensive for what it has to offer. We reached out to Samsung Mobile Singapore on the possibility of a price cut for the Galaxy Gear in Singapore. A company spokesperson told us that they are currently reviewing the pricing for the device.
