Gigabyte has announced four Intel X99 motherboard that make up its new Champion series. The boards are the X99-Gaming 5P, X99-UD4P, X99-UD3P and X99-SOC Champion, which was first announced in CES this year. For a start, all Champion series motherboards have been certified to support XMP profiles up to 3200MHz. Since the X99-SOC Champion is built for overclockers, it supports DDR4 memory modules that have been rated to operate at 3400MHz.

In a move that is fit for a true champion, Corsair has released a Dominator Platinum 16GB DDR4 3400MHz memory kit (4 x 4GB); it even comes color-coordinated with the X99-SOC Champion. Speaking of memory modules, all Champion boards work with registered DDR4 memory modules and this allows them to enjoy a slightly better memory bandwidth over unregistered ones. However, not all the Champion boards have the same number of DIMM slots; the X99-SOC Champion and the X99-UD3P have four DDR4 DIMM slots each, whereas the GA-X99-Gaming 5P and the GA-X99-UDP4 have eight such slots each.

The GA-X99-Gaming 5P targets gamers; it has the best onboard audio system that is made up of Creative Sound Core 3D controller with TI Burr Brown OPA2134 operational amplifier. This amp can be swapped out according to the needs of the discerning audiophile/gamer. In fact, the board is like a full ATX version of the X99M-Gaming 5 mATX motherboard, which was released in November last year.

The X99-UD4P and the X99-UD3P are also branded with the Ultra Durable badge. These boards are meant for power users who are looking to configure a powerful desktop workstation. The Champion boards feature server-grade chokes, black solid capacitors, and POSCAPs for stable power delivery. For optimal operation of the LGA 2011-v3 Intel Core processors and DDR4 memory modules, the boards feature IR digital power controllers and PowIRstage ICs. Do check out their respective product pages of each Champion series board for more information.
