Get Your Own Mini-You Figurine at the Uu 3D Studio
If you’ve ever wanted a mini-figurine of yourself, here’s your chance.
From 21st September to 6th October 2013, the Uu 3D studio in Scotts Square will help you scan and print your own little mini-me. The Uu 3D studio is a collaborative project between Kinetic Singapore, Mikanbako of Japan and venue sponsor Scotts Square. Besides the scanning studio, the Uu 3D studio is also an exhibition venue open to the public, where you can see printed figurines on display.
The scanning process takes about 30 minutes for customers by professionals from Mikanbako. After scanning, the data will be sent to Mikanbako’s lab in Japan to be processed and printed. Due to the complexity of the process, customers will receive their figures about three months from their scan. The scanned data, which can go up to 3.5GB per person, will be kept with Mikanbako for six months in case a customer wants a reprint, and then deleted off Mikanbako’s servers to preserve customer privacy.
Mikanbako has been in the 3D printing business for the past three years, and they started the 3D figurine business this year. Wataru Hida, CEO of Mikanbako, hopes that customers will come to appreciate this new way of creating memories of loved ones, and says that the figurines, if well kept, can last for a lifetime. The figurines cost S$850 for a small version (10-15 cm in height), S$1,000 for a medium version (15.1-20 cm), S$1,500 (20.1-25 cm) for a large version, and S$300 for an extra small reprint (less than 10 cm).
