Fujifilm Announces Four New Superzooms and One Rugged Compact Camera

Fujifilm has announced four new superzoom cameras, including the weather-resistant S1. The company is also introducing a new rugged compact camera with built-in Wi-Fi and Full-HD video recording.

The FinePix S1 is the "world's first" (is it really? we have no idea) weather-resistant superzoom, with a 16MP 1/2.3" BSI CMOS sensor and a 24-120mm (in 35mm equivalent, roughly 50x optical zoom) f/2.8-5.6 lens. It also comes with an articulating 3" LCD screen, built-in Wi-Fi and Full-HD video recording. The built-in 5-axis optical stabilization promises 3-stop stabilization, there's a Super Macro mode which lets users focus on subjects 1cm away.

Since the S1 is a FinePix camera, we imagine it doesn't replace the similarly named, one-year old X-S1 (which still remains on Fujifilm's website). The X-S1 has a 24-624mm (in 35mm equivalent, 26x optical zoom) f/2.8-5.6 lens with a 12MP sensor.

Three other FinePix superzoom cameras have been announced, the FinePix S9400W and S9200 both have 24-1200mm (in 35mm equivalent, 50x optical zoom) f/2.9-6.5 lenses and a 16MP 1/2.3" CMOS sensor. The main difference between the two is that the S9400W has built-in Wi-Fi (hence the 'W'). Both come with a Super Macro mode which lets users focus as closely as 1cm away. They can record Full-HD video and a new 5-axis image stabilization system promises to keep shooting smooth.

The FinePix S8600 has a 25-900mm (in 35mm equivalent, 36x optical zoom) lens with a 16MP 1/2.3" CCD sensor (curiously enough, in an industry which has mostly shifted to CMOS image sensors).

The FinePix XP70 is a rugged, waterproof, shockproof, dustproof and freezeproof camera with a 28-140mm (in 35mm equivalent) f/3.9-4.9 zoom lens with a 16MP CMOS sensor, Full-HD video recording and built-in Wi-Fi.

Local prices and availability have yet to be announced, but DP Preview has the following prices for the United States, with availability in March:
