As Apple prepares to launch the new iPhones next month, one of its main suppliers is working to enhance its production facilities for the 2017 iPhone.

Nikkei Asian Review reports that Foxconn has been working on a glass casing for the 2017 iPhone for a year so as to prepare itself to deliver more components and assist with more orders. This has been reported previously by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who believes that Apple will bring a major redesign to the iPhone next year to celebrate its 10th anniversary

Determined to secure its position as a key iPhone assembler, Foxconn is developing its glass casing technology. "Foxconn has been trying glass chassis since last year," a person with knowledge of the Apple supply chain in Taiwan said.

Another source said: "It is only natural that Foxconn is trying to come up with glass chassis as the capabilities to provide more components will bolster its standing within the supply chain and help with more orders."

The publication also claims that stiff competition from Samsung and Huawei forced Apple to ditch plans for a third iPhone model this year. Apparently, Apple made a last minute decision last quarter to cancel the single-lens model of the iPhone 7 Plus .

"This never happened before. Before this year, Apple never made changes to iPhone's product line mere months before the launch. It has been a volatile year for Apple," a source said.

Kuo also reported in January that Apple was working on two models of the bigger iPhones where the standard model has one rear camera while the other model will come with a dual-camera module.

Bloomberg reported two days ago that the bigger iPhone will sport a dual-camera module that takes brighter photos with more details in low light conditions. Apple is likely to hold an event on 7th September to announce the new iPhones, after which pre-orders will kick off on the 9th September and sales beginning in the week of 12th September.
