Fitbit CEO states new smartwatch is "on track" and will lack LTE support
There have been rumors since April that Fitbit's next smartwatch could be delayed, but the company's CEO has officially confirmed it's not true.
In an interview with Financial Times, Fitbit CEO James Park confirmed that the smartwatch is "on track" to arrive later this year and is confident about its appeal to the wearable audience.
Park went on to tease some of the new features of the smartwatch which include waterproofing, accurate GPS tracking, long battery life and new biometric sensors. He confirmed that the smartwatch would not have LTE support as it is struggling to find a use case for it. Park also shared that Fitbit is trying to get native support for music streaming services (e.g. Spotify and Pandora) on the smartwatch.
Bloomberg reported earlier this month that Fitbit is facing difficulties developing the smartwatch and app store. The project team lost several members and developers are said to be hesitant to invest in the app store. Fitbit later issued a statement that these claims are false.
