Research firm IHS Technology has just published its findings detailing the costs of the individual components of Apple's latest iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. They have also estimated how much it costs to manufacture these new phones.

Unsurprisingly, the new 3D Touch display is the costliest item and costs an estimated US$52.50 for the iPhone 6s Plus. The second most expensive component is the new A9 processor, which IHS says costs roughly US$22.

Other standout components are the 2GB DRAM module, front and rear-facing camera modules, as well as the Qualcomm baseband chip. These components cost between US$13 and US$23 each.

In total, it is estimated that the iPhone 6s around US$211.50 to build, while the iPhone 6s Plus is slightly more costly at US$236.

Of course, it's worth noting at this point that the report only takes into account the costs of materials and not additional costs such as R&D, logistics and marketing.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed his unhappiness at these "guesstimators" in the past and also said that he has never seen as estimated bill of materials breakdown that has come close to being accurate. Hence, it's best to take these numbers with a grain of salt.

However, it's worth nothing also that these estimates are quite similar to those of its predecessors - the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Last year, we reported that the iPhone 6  icosts around US$200 to US$247 in parts and labor to build, whereas the larger iPhone 6 Plus costs US$216 to US$263.
