Facebook is testing a set of tools that the company thinks will help mend a broken heart. Despite being a social media platform where many people share their happy moments, there are times when Facebook users fall out of relationships. With this new feature, when a user changes his relationship status, Facebook will prompt the user with a few options, which will allow the “heartbroken” user to:-

  • See less of a former partner’s name and profile picture without the need to terminate their friendship on Facebook. At the same time, the former partner’s post won’t show on the News Feed, and his name will not be brought up at the composition of a new message or when tagging friends for a picture.

  • Limit what your former partner can see; photos, videos and status updates

  • Edit who’s able to view previous posts that involved the former partner, and there’s also an option for the user to untag himself from older posts.

The new features will be rolled out to English mobile users in the United States, and the tools will be tweaked further upon receiving users’ feedback. All the new tools are optional, and users will able to access their settings from the help center anytime. Facebook just wants to make the experience of falling out of a relationship a little less painful. Maybe a good cry and a box of Kleenex will help ease the pain too.
