Facebook Messenger now has 800 million monthly active users
Six months after crossing the 700-million mark, Facebook today announced yet another milestone for its Messenger service.
According to David Marcus, who is the VP of Messaging Products, Facebook Messenger now boasts over 800 million monthly active users. That's an impressive increase of 100 million monthly active users in half a year! Marcus also shared how Facebook Messenger was improved in 2015 to help people communicate easier:
- making the instant messaging service faster
- introducing video calling
- the ability to customize conversations with colors, nicknames and emojis
- a new platform centered on content and businesses
- chatting with users on the instant messaging service even if they do not have a Facebook account
Looking ahead, Marcus also states that Messenger 2016 will focus on five themes. They are the disappearance of the phone number, threads as the new apps, human nature to be social beings, the importance of innovation, and how Facebook builds products to delight people.
