Expect fewer smartphone models from HTC in 2018

HTC is reportedly releasing a limited number of new smartphone models next year.

According to DigiTimes, industry sources claim that HTC is likely to focus its R&D and marketing efforts on a limited number of handsets for 2018. The lineup for 2018 will include a mid-range variant of the recently announced U11+ handset, which is rumored to launch next month.

The Taiwanese phone maker is expected to unveil its next flagship phone, the U12 which will come with a 4K display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile platform, and dual rear cameras. This is in line with what HTC stated in its press release three months ago that it will have "a more streamlined product portfolio" and the "best in-class engineering talent" is working on the next flagship phone.

Google acquired HTC's smartphone division in September to boost its development efforts for the Pixel phone lineup. The acquisition also includes a non-exclusive license for HTC's intellectual property.
