It has been revealed in the ongoing trial of Apple against Samsung that Google has agreed to partially or fully indemnify Samsung should it lose. This indemnification is said to cover two of the five patents that Apple is asserting has been infringed upon. Apple is claiming US$2.2 billion in damages.

Google is obligated to defend Samsung as part of their "Mobile Application Distribution Agreement", and Samsung has already called on several Google employees to be witnesses for its defense. Samsung is also the largest manufacturer of Android products.

The revelation that Google has agreed to partially or fully indemnify Samsung came about as Apple introduced a deposition testimony by Google lawyer James Maccoun to refute earlier statements by Samsung that it has not and is not seeking indemnification from Google.
