EA Buys PopCap Games for US$750 Million

The next Bejeweled game you'll buy or perhaps a sequel to Plants vs. Zombies may be available only through EA's new online distribution service, Origin. The publisher has acquired PopCap Games for cash and stock worth US$750 million and PopCap's casual games are eminently suitable for online distribution.

Wired.com - EA will pay $650 million and an additional $100 million in stock for PopCap Games, which also creates the popular Bejeweled series of puzzle games. As of last year, Bejeweled had sold over 50 million units. PopCap has moved a total of 150 million games, mostly on digital platforms like Facebook, iOS and Android.
