Director Steven Soderbergh shot a movie on an iPhone, calls it a gamechanger

The iPhone has managed to impress acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh to the extent that he is thinking about using it exclusively for film making in future.

Speaking to IndieWire, Soderbergh revealed that he shot his latest feature film "Unsane" on an iPhone and it is a gamechanger for him.

"I think this is the future,” he said. “Anybody going to see this movie who has no idea of the backstory to the production will have no idea this was shot on the phone. That’s not part of the conceit.”

Soderbergh is particularly impressed with the 4K video quality of the iPhone and compares it to velvet. When asked if he would continue shooting on the iPhone for his future films, Soderbergh shared that he is likely to.

“I’d have to have a pretty good reason not to be thinking about that first… There’s a philosophical obstacle a lot of people have about the size of the capture device. I don’t have that problem. I look at this as potentially one of the most liberating experiences that I’ve ever had as a filmmaker, and that I continue having. The gets that I felt moment to moment were so significant that this is, to me, a new chapter.”

Since the movie was filmed last year, it is very likely that Soderbergh used the iPhone 7 Plus. "Unsane" is scheduled to arrive in theaters in March.
