DBS Bank has announced that its virtual credit card, DBS One.Tap, is now available to mobile subscribers from the three mobile network operators in Singapore.
The new partnership with M1 and SingTel effectively makes it possible for all existing DBS/POSB cardholders and new customers to enjoy the convenience of making payments with their Near Field Communication-enabled (NFC) mobile handsets upon signing up for DBS One.Tap. Previously, only StarHub mobile subscribers with NFC handsets could sign up for the service.
Existing DBS/POSB cardholders and new customers who hold NFC-enabled mobile handsets can simply replace their SIM card for a NFC SIM card at any M1, SingTel or StarHub shop. They can then apply for DBS One.Tap Card using their smartphones on DBS iBanking and mBanking. Once approved, customers can download their respective mobile network operator’s NFC Wallet Application from Google Play and activate DBS One.Tap.
DBS has been working with key partner merchants to drive greater usage and acceptance of the NFC technology among DBS/POSB cardholders and the bank has equipped over 30,000 of its partner merchant outlets with contactless payment terminals. DBS will continue to expand its merchant partnerships and widen the contactless acceptance network, so as to make it more rewarding for Singaporeans to go mobile. Some of these merchants include Shaw Theatres, PastaMania, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, FOX, Pumpkin Patch and G2000.
Besides payments, DBS has also introduced new ways for its cardholders to enjoy rewards – customers will be able to download merchant discount coupons onto their mobile handsets and pay for their purchases using a single tap, eliminating the need for physical cards.
New NFC-enabled mobile handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S III LTE, Galaxy Note II LTE and Galaxy Express are already available in Singapore. Other popular NFC-enabled mobile handsets include the Samsung Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy S III, Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia Sola.
