Dark Sky App Creators Launch New Weather Site Forecast.io

About a year ago, mobile developers Jack Turner and Adam Grossman launched Dark Sky, a new kind of weather app which could predict, to the minute, the weather at your exact location. Instead of trying to grossly predict the weather for the day, Dark Sky would narrow down its prediction to a half hour to an hour into the future, providing more accurate results. The catch was that Dark Sky was only available in the US.

Today, the developers have announced Forecast, a full-featured weather forecast website developed from scratch, which provides 7-day forecasts covering the entire world. Instead of only an hourly weather forecast, you can explore the weather both in the past and in the future on the site, complete with animated visualizations. Down to the minute weather forecasts are still available, but currently only for selected countries at the moment (Singapore not included), with more coming countries slated to come soon.

Besides visiting the site on your PC or laptop, you also access it as a web app on mobile devices by bookmarking it on your home screen. Forecast is making its data API available to developers, who can also use it to make other weather apps. The Verge reports that Forecast's developers plan to add push notifications as a premium service "within the next month or so".
