D-Link has just announced a new addition to its Ultra Performance lineup of big, brash and bold routers.

First seen at CES 2015 earlier this year, the new DIR-885L router is the second addition to the Ultra Performance family. The first being the very red and many antennae DIR-890L router which we reviewed earlier this year.

Like its sibling, the new D-Link DIR-885L router comes in the same bright candy red that many fans love. It is D-Link's first 802.11ac Wave 2 router and features a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and also Broadcom NitroQAM technology. This means that it can offer a maximum total transfer rate of 3150Mbps on its 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands - 1000Mbps on 2.4GHz and 2167Mbps on its 5GHz band.

It also supports MU-MIMO technology, allowing it to transmit data more efficiently to MU-MIMO compatible clients.

If 802.11ac Wave 2 and MU-MIMO sound alien to you, we suggest you read our guide to 802.11ac networking here and our introduction of MU-MIMO here.

All this aside, the DIR-885L router can also be remotely managed using the mydlink app and also supports dlink SharePort for easily sharing of content at home.

The D-Link DIR-885L router will be available for pre-order from 12 November onwards and will have a suggested retail price of S$379.
