Cyanogen OS will also bundle Microsoft apps and services
Microsoft apps are really going places. We’ve talked about the OneDrive, OneNote, and Skype apps appearing on the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge; and how Word, Excel, and PowerPoint would be joining them soon on upcoming Samsung Android tablets. Several Android OEMs like Dell are also doing the same thing, having struck an agreement with the Redmond-based company to pre-install its apps on their upcoming devices.
Now, it’s time to add Cyanogen to the list. The company has announced a “strategic partnership” with Microsoft to integrate the latter’s apps and services, such as Bing services, Skype, OneDrive, OneNote, Outlook, and Microsoft Office, into its Cyanogen OS. According to the press release, Microsoft will also create “native integrations” on Cyanogen OS, which we posit to mean that the apps would be tweaked to follow Cyanogen OS’ design guidelines.
To be clear, this is between Cyanogen OS and Microsoft; CyanogenMod will not be pre-installing Microsoft apps.
