Cutting-edge Japanese Technology and Entertainment to be Showcased in Singapore
Gadget lovers, J-pop enthusiasts and businesses keen to glean insights on content development strategies are in for a treat this November. Anime Festival Asia 2010 (AFA X), South-east Asia’s biggest and wildly anticipated showcase of Japanese popular culture, announced the complete line-up of its Cool Japan Forum. Organizers also announced details on its innovation showcase, the Cool Japan Experience, as well as new merchandise and celebrity additions for the festival.
Award-winning Industry Pioneer speaks in Cool Japan Forum
Mr Yasushi Akimoto, one of the most influential pioneers in the Japanese entertainment industry, will be a keynote speaker for the Cool Japan Forum. He will share his experience in developing creative entertainment strategies, including the highly successful AKB48 idol group.
The business and networking platform held on 12 November will see top Japanese and regional business leaders from music, fashion and animation industries gather to share their experiences. Speakers will touch on both local and overseas perspectives, with the theme on content development strategies in Asia (from Cool Japan to Cool Asia).
Delegate passes are available online from 22 October 2010. They can be purchased at S$208 each online, or S$238 each at the event grounds on 12 November. This includes a two-day exhibition pass for 13 and 14 November. Students who are interested in learning from the prestigious speakers can purchase special student passes for the forum at S$58 each (this excludes the networking party).
AKB48 “live” - a Cool Japan Forum Special
Fans of AKB48 can watch them in person “live” in Singapore. Currently one of the most talked-about idol groups in Japan, around 16 of its members will perform as part of AFA X in Singapore for the first time on 12 November.
Tickets are priced at $88, $68 per seat and $48 for standing tickets. A limited number of tickets will be available at a special pre-sale event on 23rd October. Members of the public can also purchase tickets online from 27th October.
Technological Innovations to give visitors a Cool Japan Experience
AFA X’s first Cool Japan Experience zone will bring the benefits of some of Japan’s latest technology right to your fingertips, literally. Visitors will be able to try, play, and experience first-hand the convenience and fun that innovative products can bring to enhance everyday living.
The products showcased, some which have yet to be launched in Singapore, are from renowned Japanese companies and include:
- Toyota and Toyota Tsusho’s electric car, the Cyber-coupon Augmented Reality Entertainment, and the AR catalog;
- Canon’s printers, cameras and camcorders;
- Panasonic 3D video camcorder and 3D TV;
- Itoki’s ergonomic chair used in the Toyako Summit in Hokkaido.
Organizers are in the midst of discussions with several other companies and details will be announced closer to date. The Cool Japan Experience zone is situated within the festival grounds.
New attractions announced for gamers, shoppers and photography buffs
Avid gamers, shoppers and photography enthusiasts can look forward to:
A dedicated area will be set up by Canon for a series of photography-related activities. This includes a Photo Experience Zone, Cosplay and Figurine Photography Workshops, Photo Contest, and roaming SELPHY Girls.
Exclusively this November, visitors will also be able to get their hands on the only few available arcade version! s of SEGA’s Project Diva Arcade Game featuring the ever popular virtual diva Hatsune Miku. More details on other games will be announced later.
- Anime Figurines and merchandise
Good Smile Company, one of Japan’s most popular figurine makers will have exclusive items for sale at AFA X. Highly popular Japanese game, anime and char! acter development company Nitroplus will also feature their popular ti tles such as Muramasa, DemonBane, Phantom and their popular character Super Sonico!
A better and more star-studded festival
With less than a month leading up to the festival, Singaporeans and regional fans have res! ponded enthusiastically. Its Facebook Fan Page has increased by over 70% from 41,000 to over 70,000 fans in four weeks. Its second Regional Cosplay Championship, presented by Canon, saw over 50 high-quality entries from Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines. Five finalists teams, one from each country, were announced today.
Two new female celebrity cosplayers will also join the star-studded line-up in AFA X. Aira, from Japan, one of the world’s most popular female celebrity cosplayer will make a special guest appearance for the first time. Alodia Gosiengfiao, from the Philippines and well-known in the region, will return to the festival too.

- I Love Anisong
- Phonic Nation – May’n will launch a documentary movie to be released in Japan in 2011. Titled “Phonic Nation”, the movie includes footage shot in Singapore this year, and details her rise to success through Anime Festival Asia in 2008 and other regional performances. I Love Anisong concert-goers will get a sneak peak at this movie and May’n will perform one of her new songs from the movie soundtrack.
- A special co llaboration performance by JAM Project and Ichirou Mizuki
- A fuller sensory treat as angela’s concert segment will feature a simultaneous broadcast of the anime footage as the duo perform.
- More exclusive merchandise

Jointly organized by Dentsu Singapore and SOZO Pte Ltd, AFA X will be held at Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre Halls 401 and 402. Festival tickets will be available from Nov 1 at selected outlets and on-site purchase during the event days.
