Cloud Computing Services for SMEs Implemented the NVIDIA Way

NVIDIA has reiterated the benefits of its GRID technology that centralizes graphical processing requirements. At the same time, it allows for the smooth delivery of the outputs to the users' desktop. This has led to the creation of Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) for small and medium businesses.

One such service provider, based in the United States, is Ajubeo. The firm offers its Graphics Virtual Desktop service, which is based on NVIDIA's GRID technology, with claims to be able to reduce the total cost of ownership of IT services (TCO) by up to 35 percent, when compared to traditional hardware-accelerated workstations. Besides lowering the hardware costs for customers, they are also able to do away with the upkeep of a dedicated IT department. This is because Ajubeo's cloud computing services are delivered over the network from their centralized servers; as a result, the hardware and software requirements on the customer's end are kept simple, to a minimum.

Another US-based service provider CT Networks leverages on hardware like NVIDIA GPUs and HP DL380 P servers, as well as the Citrix XenApp Platinum 6.5 application, to allow for remote access to hosted AutoCAD applications. With Citrix XenApp client software support for both Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, CT Networks is able to cater to both Windows and Mac users.

Their services also offers privacy and security for the customers as the outputs from the cloud computing services are delivered over secure channels on their network; at the same time, the work produced by the customer's employees can be securely stored on the remote servers. This also allows the customer to protect the exclusivity of their created content and data. This gives rise to Virtual Private Clouds for small and medium enterprises.

NVIDIA's GRID technology was first showcased at GTC 2012, and was positioned as a cloud gaming service. In a short span of time, GRID has evolved to become an enterprise-level solution for SMEs, with the ability to deliver the services of high-end software like Autodesk, AutoCAD and AutoDesk Revit over a secure wide area network (WAN). NVIDIA has also offered its own GRID server, the NVIDIA VGA, so that interested businesses can implement VPCs of their own quickly.
