The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has announced new logos for 4K Ultra High-Definition (UHD) TVs, monitors, and projectors for the home.

More specifically, there are two new logos: one for 4K Ultra HD and another for 4K Ultra HD Connected. Both are meant to accompany the voluntary guidelines that CEA has set up to define what a 4K UHD display or ‘connected’ UHD TV is.

While these new logos are designed to assist consumers in identifying UHD products in the market, their use isn’t compulsory. According to CEA, the logos “will be made available for voluntary use by manufacturers for product packaging, marketing materials and promotional activities”. That said, CEA is already developing a licensing agreement for manufacturers who are going to use these new logos.

In July, CEA revised its sales forecast for 4K UHD displays. It projects unit shipments of these displays to reach 800,000 in 2014 (a marked increase over CEA’s initial forecast of 485,000 units), with a revenue of US$1.9 billion. This is expected to grow further and exceed US$5 billion in 2015.
