Canonical Developing Ubuntu OS for Tablets

And now you can add Canonical and Ubuntu to the growing number of developers and OS getting into the tablet arena. The developer of the popular Linux distribution has revealed that it is working on a lightweight Linux OS for the tablet based on the upcoming Ubuntu 10.10. However, you'll have to wait till winter 2011 before such tablets will arrive in the market.

InfoWorld - Canonical is preparing a version of the Ubuntu OS for tablet computers as the company looks to extend its presence in the mobile space, a company executive said. Tablets with the Ubuntu OS could become available late in winter 2011, said Chris Kenyon, Canonical's vice president of OEM services. The OS will be a lightweight version of Linux with a simplified, touch-friendly user interface.
