Canon’s new PowerShot G9 X Mark II gets better at burst shooting and stabilization (updated with price and availability)
Canon’s new PowerShot G9 X Mark II gets better at burst shooting and image stabilization
Canon’s new PowerShot G9 X Mark II compact camera adds modest improvements.
It has the new Digic VII processor, which was introduced in last year’s G7 X Mark II. The new processor lets the G9 Mark II shoot raw files at up to 8.2fps. The camera also adds Canon’s Dual Sensing Image Stabilization, which claims 3.5 stops of stabilization.
The G9 X Mark II is Canon’s first camera with low-energy Bluetooth, which lets it maintain a constant connection to smart mobile devices. It also ships with Wi-Fi and NFC. Canon says that automatic scene detection, AF and low-light photo quality have also been improved.
Besides that, the G9 X Mark II carries over the original’s large 1” 20.2MP sensor, with a 28-84mm f/2-4.9 lens. It comes with the convenient front control ring and a 3” touch-screen monitor. The G9 X Mark II also looks identical to the original G9 X, and I can’t seem to spot a ‘Mark II’ on the press images of the camera body.
Bucking the trend, the G9 X Mark II doesn’t get an update to shoot 4K video. Instead, it shoots 1080/60p/30p/24p video, with a maximum bitrate of 35Mbps at 60p. Local pricing and availability haven’t been announced yet, but DPReview reports that it will ship in February in the US for US$529.
*Update* Canon has just announced that the G9X Mark II will be available locally from tomorrow onwards at all authorized distributors for S$669.
