Incorporating inbuilt wireless connectivity and cloud printing support, the printer is compatible with the latest DPS over IP standard (Wireless PictBridge), allowing it to print directly from compatible digital cameras over a wireless LAN connection. The Pixma Printing Solutions app (for both iOS and Android mobile devices) provides users access the printer's Remote UI to check remaining ink levels, initiate regular maintenance functions such as print head alignment and cleaning, as well as obtaining ink cartridge model information. Integrated Cableless Setup enables the printer to be set up easily in secured wireless environments without the need to install any utility programs on host PCs or laptops.

The iP8770 is also bundled with My Image Garden software that offers a variety of image organisation and creative printing features. Finally, the printer features a Auto Power ON/OFF function, allowing it to wake from rest mode to carry out print jobs and shuts it down after a period of inactivity determined by the user.
