Canon Refines DSLR Photography for the Masses : Advanced creative features such as image filters and Video Snapshot coupled with industry-standard High-Definition movie recording sets a new benchmark for entry-level DSLR cameras

Canon announces the launch of the EOS 600D and the EOS 1100D, bridging the gap between the ease of a compact camera and the superior imaging power of a DSLR. Backed by the highly acclaimed DIGIC 4 image processor, both DSLRs are able to process photos faster, and reduce noise at higher ISO settings for greater clarity. In particular, the EOS 600D features advanced capabilities such as full HD video recording and the brand new Scene Intelligent Auto for outstanding images every time.

Superb performance for every occasion

EOS 600D

Driven by Canon’s signature DIGIC 4 image processor, the EOS 600D captures your most important memories with an 18 megapixel CMOS sensor, while the entry-level EOS 1100D comes packed with a 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor. Both DSLRs utilise a high speed 9-point auto-focus system which swiftly tracks and focuses on fast moving objects. The EOS 600D continuously captures up to 3.7 frames per second, and buffers up to 34 successive shots. Professionals will appreciate the inclusion of the built-in wireless flash transmitter in the EOS 600D, enabling communication with multiple flash units. Shooting in low light environments have now been made much easier with a higher ISO range of up to 6400 for both DSLRs, with the EOS 600D capable of expansion up to ISO 12800.

Features at your finger tips

EOS 1100D

Both the EOS 600D and EOS 1100D come equipped with Basic+, a new feature designed to help users in achieving fuss-free and higher quality images. With Basic+, photography is simplified as users can opt for simpler settings like “warm”, “soft” or “vivid”. The camera will then adjust its settings to achieve the desired settings. For those who prefer conventional options, settings such as “colour saturation” or “white balance” are still available.

Also available in both DSLRs is the new Feature Guide. Feature Guide makes using the camera a breeze by pairing simple descriptions with all functions and settings to help users understand the terminology, and even suggests the ideal usage of functions. For example, when adjusting ISO speed, the guide explains clearly various ISO situations.

The EOS 600D also comes with the new ‘Scene Intelligent Auto’. This feature not only analyzes fundamental imaging aspects such as exposure, focus, white balance and lighting condition to automatically determine the best settings, it now adds the new element of determining the appropriate picture style. The camera automatically determines the type of scene and applies the necessary picture style parameters. For example, the camera is able to detect when human subjects are being taken and adopt the portrait picture style which results in pleasing smooth skin tones. This makes it easy for the photographer to concentrate on capturing the moment as the camera will choose the optimal setting.

Equipped with the Vari-Angle Clear View LCD monitor previously found in the EOS 60D, the EOS 600D’s LCD screen can be folded out and swivelled, allowing pictures to be properly framed at any angle whereas the EOS 1100D comes with a 2.7-inch, 230,000 dot Wide Angle Viewing TFT LCD.

HD Movie Recording

Equipped with Full HD Movie capabilities, the EOS 600D is able to record Full HD video (1920x1080). Adding to it, it’s able to capture video at a high ISO speed of 6400. With up to 10x digital zoom while recording, and adjustable frame rate settings, the EOS 600D presents a new level of ease in DSLR filming. The EOS 1100D is able to capture HD movies at 1280 x 720 resolution, empowering users to compliment their photography with high definition video.

A new function in both EOS cameras is the Video Snapshot function (previously found in the Canon LEGRIA camcorders) which shoots quick clips of 2, 4, or 8 seconds in length. These snippets can then be played back in-camera like a homemade movie, for easy enjoyment. The EOS 600D allows both photos and videos to be played back together with background music for maximum enjoyment. Five pieces of music are also included with the camera, and users can always import their own music with SD cards.

In-built camera capabilities

For the first time in its class, advanced creative filters are featured in the EOS 600D. These five new filters allow you to apply special effects such as Soft Focus, Toy Camera Effect, Miniature, Grainy Black & White and a Fish-eye Effect to your photos, giving them extra appeal and fun. Filters can even be combined, for an even wider range of possibilities. For social media enthusiasts, the 600D is also capable of automatically resizing high-resolution images as smaller JPEG images that are more suitable for use on blogs or websites.

Colour your world

A new design element is the availability of four colours for the EOS 1100D. The camera is available in red, brown, metallic gray and black, and will ship with matching straps.
