Canon Launches Eight Additions to its LEGRIA Camcorder Range

Canon launches eight camcorders with industry-leading features emphasizing the ease and joy of video making

Canon Legria HF G10

Canon announces the launch of eight new additions to its LEGRIA camcorder range, including the new flagship model HF G10, the higher-end HF S30, two compact HF M series models HF M41 and HF M400, two entry-level R series models HF R28 and HF R26, as well as two standard definition FS series models FS46 and FS406.

As a firm advocate and believer in user-friendly, straightforward movie creation, the launch of this impressive line-up of new camcorders also marks the milestone introduction of Canon’s new Cinema Style. Comprising of three components, the Cinema Style features Cinema-Look Filters that add various cinematic effects, as well as the Story Creator and Touch Decoration tools for an easy, efficient and fun way to create great videos and add creative flair. With its unwavering focus on outstanding image quality, Canon has also improved upon its Full HD CMOS image sensor, with the introduction of the new HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor in some of the new camcorders.

Impeccable Video Performance with Superb Imaging

The design of the HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor found in the LEGRIA HF G10, HF M41 and HF M400 translates to high video resolution, outstanding low-light performance and an expanded dynamic range. The high sensitivity of this sensor allows users to capture images with a wide dynamic range, which means images are equally life-like in high contrast scenes or when shooting subjects with subtle skin tone gradations. This capability enables the retention of more detail in shadows and prevents highlights from appearing blown out when shooting in high-contrast conditions. The sensor has also been optimised for Full HD video, recording pin-sharp AVCHD footage which means users can shoot and view footage on HDTVs without resizing.

Exclusively to the HF G10 is a specially-designed new 30.4mm wide-angle Canon HD Video lens which provides both wide-angle capability in a compact form factor and a maximum aperture of f/1.8. A redesigned optical path includes an increased number of elements and two aspherical lenses for fast, accurate performance, whilst Canon’s acclaimed Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) technology provides distortion-free images throughout the range of the 10x optical zoom.

Cinema Style

Bringing unparalleled fun and ease to the video creation process, Canon also introduces its three milestone Cinema Style tools in the LEGRIA HF G10, HF M41 and HF M400. Firstly, the new Story Creator mode acts as a personal movie director, providing useful and easy-to-follow tips on the type of scenes users can capture to tell a unique story, whether it is in a holiday, party, blog or family setting. The tool is handled completely in-camera, allowing users to piece together their very own movie as they shoot.

The second tool, Touch Decoration, brings to life a fun, new, and unique video-enhancing feature that allows users to add animation, stamps, frames and messages to their footage in real time. Users can superimpose fun images and animation such as shooting stars and thought bubbles, freehand drawing or writing, clip art, or decorative frames. Last but certainly not least, the Cinema-look filters elevate the final look and feel of the video by transforming everyday scenes to convey mood and tone. Users can preview eight different filter effects and pick the one that best suits their scene. ‘Vivid’ effect adds colour and vibrancy to footage, while ‘Dream’ softens the focus to create a magical, dreamlike effect. Similarly, all filters are also applied in-camera, providing users with another way to creatively enhance their footage without the need for a PC or additional software.

Enhanced Audio Performance

Audiophiles will appreciate the improved internal microphone in the LEGRIA HF G10, HF M41 and HF M400 which reduces mid and low-frequency background noise, picking out even softer sounds with crystal-clear quality. Furthermore, an audio equaliser optimises the sound according to the type of soundtrack. When in Zoom Mic mode, the microphone directionality is automatically adjusted for subjects in front of the camcorder to ensure improved sound quality when zooming.

Compatibility with a new WM-V1 wireless microphone also provides additional flexibility, enabling the voices of subjects up to 50m from the camcorder to be captured without any loss of quality. The wireless microphone can also be used as a transceiver, allowing camcorder operators to position their subject conveniently before filming.
