Caldigit releases Tuff external portable hard disk drive with USB-C and T4 Nano PCIe SSD RAID drive

The Caldigit Tuff.

Caldigit is a company that specializes in storage solutions and peripherals for Mac professionals and one of their latest products takes advantage of USB Type-C's improved bandwidth for greater performance.

The Tuff portable external hard disk drive features, as its name suggests, a tough and durable design for use in the most extreme environments. It is drop and dust resistant and is also dust proof. Toughness aside, the Tuff comes with either mechanical hard disk drives or SSDs - up to 2TB for the former and up to 1TB for the latter. And thanks to its support for USB 3.1 via its USB Type-C connector, the Tuff can enable speeds of up to 450MB/s.

Though designed with the new MacBook in mind, the Tuff will come with a USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable so the Tuff drive can be used with any Mac notebooks or even PCs.

The 1TB Tuff drive with mechanical hard disk drive will be priced at US$139.99. Users can expect SSD variants of the Tuff to cost appreciably more.

Caldigit T4 Nano.

The T4 Nano is a smaller version of Caldigit's popular T4 drive. The T4 Nano a four-bay external drive enclosure that supports up to four PCIe-based SSDs and Thunderbolt 2 and was designed specially for professionals with 4K video editing workflows. According to Caldigit, users can expect read and write performance of up to 1375MB/s.

Additionally, it features dual Thunderbolt 2 ports so it can be daisy-chained. An HDMI port is also included so users can connect displays directly to the T4 Nano.

Don't expect performance and features like these to come cheap, prices of the T4 Nano will begin at US$2499.99 for the 2TB PCIe SSD version.
