The Bravia X94E and X93E are Sony's best 4K HDR LCD TVs in 2017

The Bravia X94E and X93E are Sony's best 4K HDR LCD TVs in 2017

In addition to the technical marvel that is the Bravia A1 OLED TV, Sony is also bringing its newest LED-LCD TVs to Singapore. And spearheading this lineup is the X93E (or X9300E) and X94E (or X9400E) series, both 4K UHD HDR TVs running Android TV.

Available in 65 and 55-inch screen sizes, the edge LED-lit X93E is basically the successor to last year’s X93D. It features a new Slim Backlight Drive+ tech with a “quad-edge LED structure” for precise local dimming (in short: more zones than the X93D); the same X1 Extreme processor as the A1 OLED TV; X-tended Dynamic Range Pro backlight algorithm for boosting contrast of HDR and non-HDR content; and 4K X-Reality Pro for enhancing detail of any source.

Like before, you can hide the cables behind the stand cover and even pipe them out through holes at the stems. Also new this year is a bundled “flush mount swivel bracket” if you prefer to hang your TVs on the wall. The mount's ability to swivel will definitely come in handy when you need to reach the back of the TV to plug in or remove a cable.

The X94E (75-inch only) shares very similar features with the X93E, with the exception of its full-array direct LED backlight system. Sony didn’t provide any numbers, but both the X93E and X94E supposedly feature higher brightness than the models they succeed. Like the A1 OLED TV, both TVs support HDR10 and Dolby Labs’ Dolby Vision HDR formats, with HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) support coming via a firmware update at a later date.

The X94E and X93E's flush mount swivel bracket enables the TVs to go pretty close to the wall.

Compared to a fixed mount, a swivel mount lets you get to the cables behind the TV easily. Also notice the geometric motif on the TV's back. This is only found on the X94E and X93E.

Like most recent Sony Bravia TVs, they run the Android TV operating system. This year's models will come with Android TV 7.0.

Don't like black trim for your TVs? Sony will be selling a "Silver Edition" version for the 65-inch and 55-inch X90E and the 55-inch X80E.

Bravia X90E, X85E, X80E, and X70E

Moving down the lineup, we also have the mid-range X90E, X85E, and X80E series (a.k.a. X9000E, X8500E, and X8000E respectively). All of them are 4K UHD Android TVs, but only the X90E and X85E have Sony’s X1 processor. The X90E also gets the X-tended Dynamic Range Pro backlighting algorithm for boosting contrast. While all of them are compatible with HDR signals, none of them supports Dolby Vision (that's reserved for X93E and above).

Needless to say, the X80E and X70E are the most basic models of the bunch (they don't even have the X1 processor). Versus the X80E, the X70E doesn't have the Triluminos wide-color display tech, and while it supports major internet video services (e.g., Netflix, YouTube), you don't get the full Android TV experience.

If 4K doesn’t interest you at all, Sony’s W75E (W750E) and W66E (W660E) 1080p smart TV series and W61E (W610E) 720p series are also expected to land on our shores in the near future.
